What can a Life Coach do for you?
By Starla Ross
With demanding careers, ever-expanding activities, and eight loads of laundry to wash, it's not surprising women sometimes feel their lives lack direction or focus. With so many things to do, the natural instinct for many women can be to become overwhelmed with small details, forget the overall big picture of their life and what they would like to accomplish as a whole.
Enter the role of the life coach. Whether for personal, spiritual, career or lifestyle aspirations, many people are seeking the help of a professional life coach to help them refocus their efforts on their life goals. A life coach can offer support and motivation. For some, the motivation to lose 50 pounds, change careers, open a new business, or achieve financial success is a seed that just needs a little watering. The life coach can look at the big goal and break it down into tiny steps, holding you accountable every step of the way until you reach the end result. The coach creates a strategy for your success.
It's possible to work with a life coach in person or over the phone. The coach will meet with you once or twice per week, help you set mini-objectives, and hold you accountable at the next meeting. Meeting in person with your life coach is not really necessary. What is important is that you feel a personal connection with your coach. Because you will be sharing intimate details with this person, you should feel comfortable with the way he or she communicates. You should also make sure the coach is able to understand your goals and set realistic expectations. Your life coach should be objective and supportive, and he or she should not be judgmental. You may need to interview several people before you find the right coach.
While some life coaches may have degrees in sociology or psychology, many do not. A life coach is someone who has a skill in helping others achieve their goals. A life coach will help you look toward the future, whereas a therapist often deals with issues from the past. The two have very different roles.
Meeting with a life coach is an investment in your future. Most people will meet with their coach a minimum of six times. While enlisting the services of a life coach can be expensive, the rewards can far outweigh the costs. Giving your life a little coaching can help you refocus, stop procrastinating, and place priority on what you deem important. This type of focus on your goals can help bring you more happiness and a passion for life. And passion, after all, is priceless.
